Would Models Benefit From Female Bodyguards?

Models under attack?

It seems to be that people who belong in modeling industry are dealing with the ever increasing  risks of being in the lime light.  They are victims of attack, some times they get away with simple injuries but other times their life has been seriously threatened and careers destroyed.

Starting with the story of a 25 years-old famous model and television presenter who has meet her future abuser and rapist on a social networking website. It is very common for people today to chat and flirt using the web. It is easier for them making socials relationships in that way. But is not the safest way if you re not aware and prepared to protect yourself. In the case of the 25 years-old model from London, she was beaten badly and raped by a 33 year-old Daniel Lynch who was also a martial arts expert. After a few days the abused woman had to suffer for the second time.  Her second abuser known as Stefan Silvestre approached her and he threw on her a cup of sulphuric acid  causing severe burns to her face that has destroyed her beauty and disfigures her for the rest of her life. Some of the acid got her in her neck and caused her seriously damages as the acid split her throat. You can read more about this here.  Both of her abused committed they were obsessed with the model, a threat that many celebrities has deal with and many of them will experience. In this case we can realize the importance of a woman being well trained in self awareness tactics. People like her abusers can be very easily identify, the fact is how seriously they will be deal and what kind of acts will be adopted from a woman in order to prevent those attacks.

At ATHENA Academy, we teach women how to be aware in different dangerous situations, being aware means you are prepared for an incoming attack.  Two-thirds of the attacks on women could be avoided if they were trained and be prepared. In another case that happened also in London, but luckily wasn’t so dramatic, a well known model and former UK Big-Brother contestant, Danielle Lloyd, during her nightlife exit with her footballer boyfriend and some friends at Crystal Nightclub, she was attacked by two women and thrown to a table with glass bottles causing her seriously cuts and damages. The two women were arrested and bailed until July with charges of causing grievous bodily harm. The same victim, earlier that month was assaulted before and punched in face in a club by a woman that belongs to her boyfriend Jamie O’Hara ex- girlfriend.  Read more here.  In this case we see a celebrity that was threatened before, what could she do?  Being aware, in cases like this when we are dealing assaults we should be prepared for another one. Call for help, professionally help that can analyze the level of the threat and consult you, train you or even provide you personal protection. At the next part of the world, Canada’s Next Top Model, 22 years-old Andrea Muizelaar, experienced a nightmare during her cruise in the Caribbean at 2008, she and her friend were attacked in daily time, 1:30 in the afternoon, in an area nearby a police station. The two attackers held first to her friend, punching him in the head and threat him with a knife in his throat, after they assaulted the young model and caused her many bruises.   See more here

Female bodyguards are one easy answer for those in the modeling industry.  Not only can female bodyguards offer peice of mind but they also do a great job of blending in and not drawing undo attention.  Remember, its when an attacker knows where you are that your chances of confrontation increase.  Female bodyguards also have the ability to be looked at as just “another girlfriend” when models are out on the town.  We can keep a low profile and be ever watchful of our surroundings as we are trained to do.

Would Rosie The Riveter Make a Good Bodyguard?

So, here is a question.  Would Rosie The Riveter have make a good icon for female bodyguards?  Don’t know who Rosie was?

Rosie The Riveter
Rosie The Riveter

During World War II in the United States, women were needed to help with the war efforts.  They were employed in munitions and materials factories and worked long hard hours to ensure that they were there to support the needs of the country.

Rosie was an icon and for the first time working women dominated public image.  Increasing to 20 million in 1944 women represented over a 50% increase in women in the work force in just four years.

So, not only did Rosie represent women in the work force but showed that women could do many of the same jobs as men.    There is more to this story and you can read on here: http://www.adcouncil.org/default.aspx?id=128

St. Maarten Island Needs More Female Bodyguards

Here is an excerpt from a report in the St. Marten Island Times.  It says what no article has when it says that having female bodyguards as part of the team is “tactically better”.  We appreciate that becase the niche that women bodyguards fill is becoming increasingly understood.  We want female bodyguards to be taken seriously and treated with the same respect as their male counter-parts and it appears that in the Dutch Island of St. Maarten that female bodyguards are valued.

More women bodyguards needed
The AD says the head of the Royal and Diplomatic Security Service (DKDB), Dick Pijl, has signaled a recruitment drive for women bodyguards. At present, only six of about 300 DKDB workers are female.

Mr Pijl admits that VIP bodyguards “have the image of just being bruisers” but argues that “there is far more observation than brute force involved in providing personal security”.

He believes women “perhaps have better communication skills” and “are also necessary to prevent a macho culture” in the service. He also thinks some women VIPs prefer having female bodyguards.

He goes on: “We also need women because the combination of men and women is tactically better and less conspicuous. A single man is more noticeable than a couple”.

Female Bodyguard Training comes to USA

Denida Zinxhiria, Founder of hte ATHENA Academy announces today that female bodyguard training will begin this summer in USA.

(Athens, Greece) 15 May 2009 –  ATHENA Academy offers female bodyguard training to women ages 20-45. “With security concerns on the rise, many are seeing the advantages of hiring women to bodyguard them” states Zinxhiria. We are the first women training organization in the world to offer such services.

Zinxhiria has taught women how to protect themselves in various classes in Athens, Greece, but has now decided to expand to other areas as the demand is increasing. Offering training for female bodyguards, urban awareness, child protection, krav maga and training for the Nannyguard designation are a few of the services offered by ATHENA Academy.

Trained by International Security Consultancy, Shield Security Organization and the Institute of Protection Specialists & Security Contractors, Zinxhiria says “you can never stop learning. Bodyguards are trained to protect their clients from intentional and unintentional acts of harm and embarrassing situations. The second I stop my education and training, is the second that I have done a disservice to my clients“. She has been featured in Cosmopolitan magazine, in various martial arts magazines and on television speaking about female bodyguards and anti-terrorism.

Zinxhiria says this about growing her training to the USA: “Starting our training in the USA will be an exciting step for us. There are some very qualified female bodyguards and security trainers that we are partnering up with to offer these services to our students“. The USA has several good female bodyguards and we are anxious to become a part of the growing industry”.

Female Bodyguards for the Pope?

Well, it seems that women are now being considered for the Swiss Guard at the Vatican.  The Swiss Guard are the Pontiffs personal security force.  Female Bodyguards for the Pope would be an interesting leap for the Vatican.

They wear  the same silly little uniforms for the last 500 years, and keep the pope safe.  In fact there have been times where they have been ambushed and lost most of the whole team but were able to keep their principal from harm.

Here is what I was able to loosley translate from the news:

“After 500 years of exclusion, the Vatican is considering whether to again allow the entry of women in the Swiss Guard, the personal guard of Pontifika, composed exclusively of Swiss Catholics  between the ages of 19 and 30 years.
The garrison, now ceremonial in nature, «born» on 22 January 1506, when 150 mercenaries arrived in Rome to serve the Pope in July II.

The problem likely to face policy makers is to find accommodation after already experiencing space problems”.

King Houegbadja (who ruled from 1645 to 1685), the third King of Dahomey, is said to have originally started the group which would become the Amazons as a corps of elephant hunters called the gbeto.[1] During the 18th century, the king had some of his wives trained as royal bodyguards.

Houegbadja’s son King Agadja (ruling from 1708 to 1732) developed the female bodyguard into a militia and successfully used them in Dahomey’s defeat of the neighbouring kingdom of Savi in 1727. European merchants recorded their presence, as well as similar female warriors amongst the Ashanti. For the next hundred years or so, they gained reputation as fearless warriors. Though they fought rarely, they usually acquitted themselves well in battle.

The group of female warriors was referred to as Mino, meaning “Our Mothers” in the Fon language by the male army of Dahomey.[2] From the time of King Ghezo (ruling from 1818 to 1858), Dahomey became increasingly militaristic. Ghezo placed great importance on the army and increased its budget and formalized its structures. The Mino were rigorously trained, given uniforms, and equipped with Danish guns (obtained via the slave trade). By this time the Mino consisted of between 4000 and 6000 women, about a third of the entire Dahomey army.

Britney Spears Female Bodyguard and Dancer

Yes, it is possible that Britney Spears has a female bodyguard that also doubles as dancer.  Check out the momentary action at the 2:17 mark.

One of the clear advantages to hiring women bodyguards is that they can mix or assimilate into most all environments.   Female bodyguards have the same training as male bodyguards, but also can provide close protection services in places where men can not, like with Saudi royal families and other Middle-Eastern situations where a woman can not be protected by men due to their customs.  Additionally, women are more low key and discreet, not calling attention to their clients.

All though we can’t confirm that this dancer is a female bodyguard it appears that she did attempt to intercept the  fan whose name has been reported as Kyle King.  We should also not that a male dancer too helped remove the fan from the stage.

Princess Eugenie mugged by bandits in Cambodia

Princess Eugenie (Pic:RexFeatures)

Princess Eugenie was caught up in a terrifying mugging while on her gap-year travels, it was revealed last night.

The Queen’s granddaughter had to be rescued by two bodyguards who saved her from a gang of bandits as she was travelling though Cambodia.

The 19-year-old princess’ ordeal reportedly began as she and two female friends were strolling at night in the country’s capital Phnom Penh.

When one of the friends got her purse out, the mugger grabbed it, thinking the girls were just backpakers and unaward that the bodyguards were nearby.

The royal protection officers immediately tore into action and rugby-tackled the thug as his accomplice began pelting them with rocks.

They grabbed the purse but let the mugger go in order to get Eugenie and her friends to a place of safety.

A Buckingham Palace source is said to have later confirmed the incident and praised the bravery of the SO14 Special Branch officers.

The incident follows a recent row over the £100,000 bill to keep Eugenie safe while she goes on her travels.

It is the first time in 10 years that SO14 officers have had to step in to stop a direct threat to a Royal.
